New Year's Day 1 st January people welcome the coming year in the U.K. the queen gives titles and decorations St. Valentine's Day 14 th February people show their love by sending Valentine cards and exchanging gifts
Easter celebrated in spring (March, April) connected with the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ in the U.K.: Egg Hunt - a favourite activity when children look for eggs hidden by Easter Bunny in the garden Egg Rolling - people let decorated eggs roll down from a hill and the first one down wins Hot Cross Buns - traditionally served on Good Friday (the cross represents Jesus)
Halloween 31 st October some parties take place children dress up in scary costumes and ask their neighbours and friends "Trick or treat", which means "Give us a treat or we will play a trick on you"(a treat is usually some money, sweets or fruit and a trick may be e.g. a soap picture on your window or some toilet paper in your trees...)
