6 Carry out the specified installation work in consideration of strong winds, typhoons, or earthquakes. Improper installation work may result in accidents due to fall of equipment. Make certain that all electrical work is carried out by qualified personnel according to the local laws and regulations and this installation manual, using a separate circuit. Insufficient capacity of the power supply circuit or improper electrical construction may lead to electric shocks or fire. Make sure that all wiring is secure, using the specified wires and ensuring that external forces do not act on the terminal connections or wires. Incomplete connection or fixing may cause a fire. For Sky ir or room air conditioner indoor units only: When wiring between the BP units and outdoor units, and wiring the power supply, form the wires so that the frontside panel can be securely fastened. If the frontside panel is not in place, the terminals may overheat and electric shocks or a fire may be caused. For VRV indoor units only: When wiring between the indoor and outdoor units, and wiring the power supply, form the wires so that the frontside panel can be securely fastened. If the frontside panel is not in place, the terminals may overheat and electric shocks or a fire may be caused. If refrigerant gas leaks during installation work, ventilate the area immediately. Toxic gas may be produced if refrigerant gas comes into contact with fire. fter completing the installation work, check to make sure that there is no leakage of refrigerant gas. Toxic gas may be produced if refrigerant gas leaks into the room and comes into contact with a source of fire, such as a fan heater, stove or cooker. Before touching electric terminal parts, turn off power switch. Do not rinse the outdoor unit. This may cause electric shocks or fire. Do not install the air conditioner in places such as the following: Where there is mist of mineral oil, oil spray or vapour for example a kitchen. Plastic parts may deteriorate, and cause them to fall out or water to leak. Where corrosive gas, such as sulfurous acid gas, is produced. Corrosion of copper pipes or soldered parts may cause the refrigerant to leak. Where there is machinery which emits electromagnetic waves. Electromagnetic waves may disturb the control system, and cause malfunction of the equipment. Where flammable gases may leak, where carbon fiber or ignitable dust is suspended in the air or where volatile flammables, such as thinner or gasoline, are handled. Such gases may cause a fire. Where the air contains high levels of salt such as that near the ocean. Where voltage fluctuates a lot, such as that in factories. In vehicles or vessels. Where acidic or alkaline vapour is present. Do not allow a child to mount on the outdoor unit or avoid placing any object on the unit. Falling or tumbling may result in injury. Do not touch any refrigerant which has leaked out of refrigerant piping connections. This may result in frostbite. Caution Ground the air conditioner. Grounding resistance should be according to national regulations Do not connect the earth wire to gas or water pipes, lightning conductor or telephone earth wire. Incomplete grounding may cause electric shocks. Gas pipe. Ignition or explosion may occur if the gas leaks. Water pipe. Hard vinyl tubes are not effective grounds. Lightning conductor or telephone ground wire. Electric potential may rise abnormally if struck by a lightning bolt. Be sure to install an earth leakage breaker. Failure to install an earth leakage breaker may cause electric shocks and fire. Install drain piping according to this installation manual to ensure good drainage, and insulate the pipe to prevent condensation. Improper drain piping may cause water leakage, and make the furniture get wet. For Sky ir or room air conditioner indoor units only: Install the indoor units, BP units and outdoor units, power wire and connecting wire at least meter away from televisions or radios to prevent image interference or noise. (Depending on the radio waves, a distance of meter may not be sufficient to eliminate the noise.) For VRV indoor units only: Install the indoor and outdoor units, power wire and connecting wire at least meter away from televisions or radios to prevent image interference or noise. (Depending on the radio waves, a distance of meter may not be sufficient to eliminate the noise.) RXYSQ~6P8VB+YB PW68-0.

8 . BEFORE INSTLLTION Since design pressure is.0 MPa or 0 bar, pipes of larger wall thickness may be required. Refer to paragraph "7.. Selection of piping material" on page 7... Precautions for R0 The refrigerant requires strict cautions for keeping the system clean, dry and tight. - Clean and dry Foreign materials (including mineral oils or moisture) should be prevented from getting mixed into the system. - Tight Read "8. Precautions on refrigerant piping" on page 8 carefully and follow these procedures correctly. Since R0 is a mixed refrigerant, the required additional refrigerant must be charged in its liquid state. (If the refrigerant is in state of gas, its composition changes and the system will not work properly). The connected indoor units must be indoor units designed exclusively for R0... Installation For Sky ir or room air conditioner indoor units only: For installation of the indoor unit(s) and BP unit(s), refer to the indoor unit and BP unit's installation manual. For VRV indoor units only: For installation of the indoor unit(s), refer to the indoor unit installation manual. Never operate the air conditioner with the discharge pipe thermistor (RT), suction pipe thermistor (RT) and pressure sensors (SNPH, SNPL) removed. Such operation may burn out the compressor. Be sure to confirm the model name and the serial no. of the outer (front) plates when attaching/detaching the plates to avoid mistakes. When closing the service panels, take care that the tightening torque does not exceed. N m.. SELECTING INSTLLTION SITE Only for Y: This is a class product. In a domestic environment this product may cause radio interference in which case the user may be required to take adequate measures. Make sure to provide for adequate measures in order to prevent that the outdoor unit be used as a shelter by small animals. Small animals making contact with electrical parts can cause malfunctions, smoke or fire. Please instruct the customer to keep the area around the unit clean. Select an installation site where the following conditions are satisfied and that meets with your customer's approval. - Places which are well-ventilated. - Places where the unit does not bother next-door neighbours. - Safe places which can withstand the unit's weight and vibration and where the unit can be installed level. - Places where there is no possibility of flammable gas or product leak. - Places where servicing space can be well ensured. - Places where lengths of piping and wiring for indoor units, BP units (for Sky ir or room air conditioner indoor units only) and outdoor units are within the allowable ranges. - Places where water leaking from the unit cannot cause damage to the location (e.g. in case of a blocked drain pipe). - Places where the rain can be avoided as much as possible. When installing the unit in a place exposed to strong wind, pay special attention to the following. Strong winds of 5 m/sec or more blowing against the outdoor unit's air outlet causes short circuit (suction of discharge air), and this may have the following consequences: - Deterioration of the operational capacity. - Frequent frost acceleration in heating operation. - Disruption of operation due to rise of high pressure. - When a strong wind blows continuously on the face of the unit, the fan can start rotating very fast until it breaks. Refer to the figures for installation of this unit in a place where the wind direction can be foreseen. Turn the air outlet side toward the building's wall, fence or screen... Handling s shown in the figure, bring the unit slowly by grabbing the left and right grips. Place your hands on the corner instead of holding the suction inlet in the side of the casing, otherwise the casing could be deformed. Take care not to let hands or objects come in contact with rear fins. Make sure there is enough room to do the installation Set the outlet side at a right angle to the direction of the wind. (Running the system with the valve closed may break the compressor.) It is forbidden to discharge refrigerant into the atmosphere. Collect the refrigerant in accordance with the freon collection and destruction law. Do not use flux when brazing the refrigerant piping. For brazing, use phosphor copper brazing filler metal (BCuP) which does not require a flux. (If a chlorine flux is used, the piping will corrode, and if the flux contains fluoride, it will cause the coolant oil to deteriorate, adversely affecting the coolant piping system. 7.. Selection of piping material Foreign materials inside pipes (including oils for fabrication) must be 0 mg/0 m. Construction material: phosphoric acid deoxidized seamless copper for refrigerant. Temper grade: use piping with temper grade in function of the pipe diameter as listed in table below. 12 8. PRECUTIONS ON REFRIGERNT PIPING Do not allow anything other than the designated refrigerant to get mixed into the freezing cycle, such as air, etc. If any refrigerant gas leaks while working on the unit, ventilate the room thoroughly right away. Use R0 only when adding refrigerant Installation tools: Make sure to use installation tools (gauge manifold charge hose, etc.) that are exclusively used for R0 installations to withstand the pressure and to prevent foreign materials (e.g. mineral oils and moisture) from mixing into the system. Vacuum pump: Use a -stage vacuum pump with a non-return valve Make sure the pump oil does not flow oppositely into the system while the pump is not working. Use a vacuum pump which can evacuate to 00.7 kpa (5 Torr, 755 mm Hg). In order to prevent dirt, liquid or dust from entering the piping, cure the piping with a pinch or taping. 8.. Cautions for flare connection See the following table for flare part machining dimensions. When connecting the flare nuts, apply refrigerant ether or ester oil to the inside and outside of the flares and turn them three or four times at first. When loosening a flare nut, always use two wrenches in combination. When connecting the piping, always use a spanner and torque wrench in combination to tighten the flare nut. Piping union Spanner Flare nut Torque wrench See the following table for tightening torque. (pplying too much torque may cause the flares to crack.) Using different flare nuts may cause the refrigerant to leak. lways use the supplied copper gasket when connecting the gas pipe supplied with the unit. See "9. Refrigerant piping" on page Cautions for brazing Installation period More than a month Less than a month Regardless of the period Protection method Pinch the pipe Pinch or tape the pipe Be sure to carry out a nitrogen blow when brazing. Brazing without carrying out nitrogen replacement or releasing nitrogen into the piping will create large quantities of oxidized film on the inside of the pipes, adversely affecting valves and compressors in the refrigerating system and preventing normal operation. When brazing while inserting nitrogen into the piping, nitrogen must be set to 0.0 MPa with a pressure-reducing valve (=just enough so that it can be felt on the skin). Ø9. 90~0.~.7 fter all the piping has been connected, use nitrogen to perform a gas leak check. NOTE R=0.~0.8 You must use a torque wrench but if you are obliged to install the unit without a torque wrench, you may follow the installation method mentioned below. fter the work is finished, make sure to check that there is no gas leak. When you keep on tightening the flare nut with a spanner, there is a point where the tightening torque suddenly increases. From that position, further tighten the flare nut within the angle shown below: Pipe size Further tightening angle Recommended arm length of tool Ø9.5 (/8") 60~90 ±00 mm Ø5.9 (5/8") 0~60 ±00 mm Ø9. 18 9.9. Leak test and vacuum drying The units were checked for leaks by the manufacturer. See figure 6 or figure 7 and refer to "9.0. dditional refrigerant charge" on page for nomenclature of the parts in figure 6 or figure 7. Confirm that the gas and liquid line stop valves are firmly closed before pressure test or vacuuming. Make sure that valve is completely open. ir tight test and vacuum drying ir tight test: Make sure to use nitrogen gas. (For the service port position, refer to "9.. Cautions for handling stop valve" on page 9. Pressurize the liquid and gas pipes to.0 MPa (0 bar) (do not pressurize more than.0 MPa (0 bar)). If the pressure does not drop within hours, the system passes the test. If the pressure drops, check where the nitrogen leaks from. Vacuum drying: Use a vacuum pump which can evacuate to 00.7 kpa (5 Torr, 755 mm Hg). Evacuate the system from the liquid and gas pipes by using a vacuum pump for more than hours and bring the system to 00.7 kpa. fter keeping the system under that condition for more than hour, check if the vacuum gauge rises or not. If it rises, the system may either contain moisture inside or have leaks.. Following should be executed if there is a possibility of moisture remaining inside the pipe (if piping work is carried out during the raining season or over a long period of time, rainwater may enter the pipe during work). fter evacuating the system for hours, pressurize the system to 0.05 MPa (vacuum break) with nitrogen gas and evacuate the system again using the vacuum pump for hour to 00.7 kpa (vacuum drying). If the system cannot be evacuated to 00.7 kpa within hours, repeat the operation of vacuum break and vacuum drying. Then, after leaving the system in vacuum for hour, confirm that the vacuum gauge does not rise dditional refrigerant charge Refrigerant cannot be charged until field wiring has been completed. Refrigerant may only be charged after performing the leak test and the vacuum drying (see above). When charging a system, care shall be taken that its maximum permissible charge is never exceeded, in view of the danger of liquid hammer. Charging with an unsuitable substance may cause explosions and accidents, so always ensure that the appropriate refrigerant (R0) is charged. Refrigerant containers shall be opened slowly. lways use protective gloves and protect your eyes when charging refrigerant. When performing service on the unit requiring the refrigerant system to be opened, refrigerant must be evacuated according to local regulations. Do not turn on the main switch until all the wiring is completed. Make sure that the main switch has a contact separation of at least mm in all poles. Never squeeze bundled cables into a unit. Fix cables so that cables do not make contact with the pipes (especially on high pressure side). Secure the electrical wiring with clamping material as shown in figure so that it does not come in contact with the piping, particularly on the high-pressure side. Make sure no external pressure is applied to the terminal connectors. When installing the earth leakage breaker make sure that it is compatible with the inverter (resistant to high frequency electrical noise) to avoid unnecessary opening of the earth leakage breaker. s this unit is equipped with an inverter, installing a phase advancing capacitor not only will deteriorate power factor improvement effect, but also may cause capacitor abnormal heating accident due to high-frequency waves. Therefore, never install a phase advancing capacitor. Follow the "electrical wiring diagram" when carrying out any electrical wiring. lways ground wires. (In accordance with national regulations of the pertinent country.) Do not connect the ground wire to gas pipes, sewage pipes, lightning rods, or telephone ground wires. Combustion gas pipes: can explode or catch fire if there is a gas leak. Sewage pipes: no grounding effect is possible if hard plastic piping is used. Telephone ground wires and lightning rods: dangerous when struck by lightning due to abnormal rise in electrical potential in the grounding. This unit uses an inverter, and therefore generates noise, which will have to be reduced to avoid interfering with other devices. The outer casing of the product may take on an electrical charge due to leaked electrical current, which will have to be discharged with the grounding. Only for Y: Make sure to connect power supply cables in normal phase. If connected in reverse phase, the remote controller of the indoor unit indicates "U" and the equipment cannot operate. Run each indoor unit one at a time and make sure the corresponding outdoor unit is also running. Check to see if cold (or hot) air is coming out of the indoor unit. Press the fan direction and fan strength buttons on the indoor unit to see if they operate properly.. SERVICE MODE OPERTION fter turning on the power supply, the unit can not be started until the HP initialisation led, indicating that the unit is still under preparation, goes off (maximum minutes). Vacuuming method t the first installation, this vacuuming is not required. It is required only for repair purposes. When the unit is at a standstill and under the setting mode, set the required function B (refrigerant recovery operation/ vacuuming operation) to ON (ON). - fter this is set, do not reset the setting mode until the vacuuming is finished. - The HP led is on and the remote controller indicates (test operation) and (external control) and the operation will be prohibited. Vacuum the system with a vacuum pump. Press the BS MODE button and reset the setting mode. Refrigerant recovery operation method by a refrigerant reclaimer. When the unit is at a standstill and in setting mode, set the required function B (refrigerant recovery operation/vacuuming operation) to ON (ON). - For Sky ir or room air conditioner indoor units only: Expansion valves of BP unit and outdoor unit will fully open and some solenoid valves will open. - For VRV indoor units only: The indoor unit and the outdoor unit expansion valves will fully open and some solenoid valves will open. - The HP led is on and the remote controller indicates (test operation) and (external control) and the operation will be prohibited. Recover the refrigerant using a refrigerant reclaimer. For details, see the operation manual delivered with the refrigerant reclaimer. Press the BS MODE button and reset the setting mode. CUTION Never turn the power of the outdoor unit OFF while the refrigerant is being recovered. If the power is turned OFF, the solenoid valves are closed and the refrigerant cannot be recovered from the outdoor unit. Cautions for normal operation check Once stopping, the compressor will not restart in about 5 minutes even if the Run/Stop button of an indoor unit in the same system is pressed. When the system operation is stopped by the remote controller, the outdoor units may continue operating for a further minute maximum. fter the test run, when handling the unit over to the customer, make sure the electric box lid, the service lid and the unit casing are all attached properly. 30 . CUTION FOR REFRIGERNT LEKS (Points to note in connection with refrigerant leaks.).. Introduction The installer and system specialist shall secure safety against leakage according to local regulations or standards. The following standards may be applicable if local regulations are not available. This unit, like other air conditioning systems, uses R0 as refrigerant. R0 itself is an entirely safe non-toxic, noncombustible refrigerant. Nevertheless care must be taken to ensure that air conditioning facilities are installed in a room which is sufficiently large. This assures that the maximum concentration level of refrigerant gas is not exceeded, in the unlikely event of major leak in the system and this in accordance to the local applicable regulations and standards... Maximum concentration level The maximum charge of refrigerant and the calculation of the maximum concentration of refrigerant is directly related to the humanly occupied space in to which it could leak. The unit of measurement of the concentration is kg/m (the weight in kg of the refrigerant gas in m volume of the occupied space). Compliance to the local applicable regulations and standards for the maximum allowable concentration level is required. ccording to the appropriate European Standard, the maximum allowed concentration level of refrigerant to a humanly space for R0 is limited to 0. kg/m. For Sky ir or room air conditioner indoor units only:.. Procedure for checking maximum concentration Check the maximum concentration level in accordance with steps to below and take whatever action is necessary to comply. Calculate the amount of refrigerant (kg) charged to each system separately. + = additional total amount of refrigerant (kg) in the system amount of refrigerant in a single unit system (amount of refrigerant with which the system is charged before leaving the factory) NOTE charging amount (amount of refrigerant added locally in accordance with the length or diameter of the refrigerant piping) Where a single refrigerant facility is divided into entirely independent refrigerant systems, use the amount of refrigerant with which each separate system is charged. Calculate the smallest room volume (m ) In a case such as the following, calculate the volume of (), (B) as a single room or as the smallest room. For Sky ir or room air conditioner indoor units only:. Where there are no smaller room divisions BP unit B. Where there is a room division but there is an opening between the rooms sufficiently large to permit a free flow of air back and forth. direction of the refrigerant flow room where refrigerant leak has occurred (outflow of all the refrigerant from the system) BP unit For VRV indoor units only: opening between rooms partition (Where there is an opening without a door or where there are openings above and below the door which are each equivalent in size to 0.5% or more of the floor area.) BP unit direction of the refrigerant flow room where refrigerant leak has occurred (outflow of all the refrigerant from the system) Pay special attention to places, such as a basements, etc. where refrigerant can stay, since refrigerant is heavier than air. 6 RXYSQ~6P8VB+YB PW68-0.
31 For VRV indoor units only:. Where there are no smaller room divisions B. Where there is a room division but there is an opening between the rooms sufficiently large to permit a free flow of air back and forth. opening between rooms partition (Where there is an opening without a door or where there are openings above and below the door which are each equivalent in size to 0.5% or more of the floor area.) Calculating the refrigerant density using the results of the calculations in steps and above. total volume of refrigerant in the refrigerant system size (m ) of smallest room in which there is an indoor unit installed maximum If the result of the above calculation exceeds the maximum concentration level then make similar calculations for the second then third smallest room and so until the result falls short of the maximum concentration. Dealing with the situations where the result exceeds the maximum concentration level. Where the installation of a facility results in a concentration in excess of the maximum concentration level then it will be necessary to revise the system. Please consult your supplier. concentration level (kg/m ). DISPOSL REQUIREMENTS Dismantling of the unit, treatment of the refrigerant, of oil and of other parts must be done in accordance with relevant local and national legislation. RXYSQ~6P8VB+YB PW
