Look at the scheme of acarbon cycle and aswer the next questions. Explain your answer in few sentences 1. How is carbon dioxide removed from the air by plants? 2. How does carbon get from air into your body? 3. How do plants, animals and decomposers all return carbon dioxide to the air? 4. How else is carbon dioxide returned to the air? Choose answer: A, B, C or D, there can be more than just one correct answer. 1. Which of the following are energy sources for plants? A. nutrients B. sunlight C. water D. carbon dioxide E. other sources 2. Which of the following processes does not increase the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere? A. Deforestation B. Combustion of fossil fuels C. Photosynthesis D. Respiration
3. When gloss paint dries: A. There is a chemical reaction between the pigment and the surface B. The solvent evaporates, leaving the pigment behind C. The pigment evaporates, leaving the solvent behind D. A mixture called a colloid is formed 4. A mature maple tree can have a mass of 1 ton or more (dry biomass, after removing the water), yet itstarts from a seed that weighs less than 1 gram. Which of the following processes contributes the most tothis huge increase in biomass? A. Absorption of mineral substances from the soil via the roots B. Absorption of organic substances from the soil via the roots C. Incorporation of CO2 gas from the atmosphere into molecules by green leaves D. Incorporation of H2O from the soil into molecules by green leaves E. Absorption of solar radiation into the leaf
Carbon uhlík Carbon dioxide oxid uhličitý Respiration dýchání Fossil fosílie Combustion spalování 1. How is carbon dioxide removed from the air by plants? Green plants take in carbon dioxide from the air during photosynthesis. 2. How does carbon get from air into your body? Carbon is passed along the food chain when animals feed. 3. How do plants, animals and decomposers all return carbon dioxide to the air? Same carbon is returned to the air as carbon dioxide when plants and animals respire. When plants and animals die, decomposers feed on them. Decomposers also feed on animal waste. When the decomposers respire, carbon dioxide is returned to the air. 4. How else is carbon dioxide returned to the air? Some dead plant and animal remains get buried and eventually form fossil fuels. When fossil fuels are burnt this releases carbon dioxide back into the air.
