Location Australia is the smallest continent and sixth largest country in the world,. Australia is located between Indian and Pacific oceans New Zealand is about 2000 km southeast of Australia It is one of the world s most remote nations. It is made up two major islands, the North Island and South Island and a number of small islands
Population Australia has only 22.5 million people, and it is one of the least densely populated countries. First people, who lived there were Aborigines. Aborigines are known for their art, spiritual beliefs and music - played on a didgeridoo, an typical wind instrument. The first inhabitants of New Zealand were Maoris. In 1642 the first Europeans discovered the islands. Today, the total population is 4.3 million.
Politicalsystem Australia and New Zealand are both constitutional monarchies, it means that the British monarch is the official head of state. Representative of each state is the Governor General, but the effective head of the country is the prime minister. The seats of the parlaiment are in the capital cities. Australia s capital is Canberra New Zealand s capital is Wellington on the North Island
Australia Canberra lies half way between Australia s two largest cities, Sydney and Melbourne. Sydney is famous for the Opera House and Harbour Bridge(in the pict.). Melbourne is known for art and entertainment. Other important cities include Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide.
Attractions Queensland has amazing beaches and the Great Barrier Reef a coral reef. In the interior of the country is the red Australian desert where visitors come to see Uluru (Ayers rocks). Tasmania, an island 240 km south of mainland, is known for its unspoilt nature.
Australia is famous for its unique wildlife which managed to survive the difficult conditions. Some of the most famous animals include kangaroo, koala and wombat. The world s second largest bird emu, is native to Australia.The continent has many crocodiles and many species of snakes. Wildlife
New Zealand The other important cities are Christchurch and Dunedin on South Island. New Zealand is known for its spectacular scenery from the coastlines and beaches of the Bay of Plenty, to the lakes and national parks of Taupo and fjords of Millford Sound. One of the country s top attractions is its glaciers, Franz Josef and Fox Glacier.
Nature Everywhere you look there are sheep in New Zealand. The animal most associated with the country, though, is the native kiwi bird it s become such a symbol that even New Zealanders themselves are known as 'Kiwis'.
