Materiál může sloužit jako názorná pomůcka doplňující výklad učitele, ale také je vhodná pro domácí přípravu žáků (např. zpřístupněním formou e-learningu). Materiál obsahuje zpětnou vazbu ověřující pochopení látky v podobě závěrečného snímku s otázkami k tématu. Tento výukový materiál je spolufinancován Evropským sociálním fondem a státním rozpočtem České republiky.

EASTER Easter is the most important holiday for the Christians. It is more important for Christians than Christmas. Easter is now a Christian festival but the word Easter comes from Eostre, the pagan goddess of spring.
EASTER Easter Day is the Sunday after the first full moon after the first day of spring (March 21). It is different every year, but always between March 22 and April 25. Many animals and birds are born in the spring. So when people started to send Easter cards in the 19th century, the cards often had baby sheep, rabbids or birds on them.
TRADITIONS - PAINTED EGGS Eggs are an important part of Easter. They are a symbol of spring, new life and fertility. In many countries real eggs are painted and used as decorations, or eaten. In some countries women give eggs to men at Easter, often after the men have whipped them with a plaited willow stick to make them fertile.
TRADITIONS EGG ROLLING Egg rolling is popular in England. People decorated eggs with different colours. Then they take the eggs to the top of a hill. Then the eggs roll down. The first eggs to get to the foot of the hill is the winner.
TRADITIONS CHOCOLATE EGGS In Britain eggs are usually made of chocolate and given as presents on Easter Sunday. Today some eggs are empty, oithers have have small chocolates inside. Some eggs are very small, some eggs are very big. On Easter Sunday people with each other a Happy Easter.
TRADITIONS EGG HUNT Some parents tell their children that the Easter Rabbit brings the eggs and hides them in the garden. Children go outside and look for Easter eggs. This tradition is called Egg hunt.
TRADITIONS CROSS BUNS Another traditional food eaten at Christmas (traditionally on Good Friday) is cross buns. Cross buns are sweet bread rolls made with spices and dried fruit, and a cross marked on top. They are best hot and there is a song about them.

TRADITIONS EASTER BONNETS Some girls and women in Britain decorate hats. They are called Easter bonnets. They put lots of spring flowers on them. Women and children usually wear them in Easter bonnets parades.
EASTER MONDAY Easter Monday is a holiday for everyone. People watch some sport or go out for the day. Children usually have a week or two holiday from school around Easter. In the Czech Republic students stay at home on Thursday and Friday before Easter and on Easter Monday.
