The proposals were discussed with the heads of individual disciplines but we also sent letters to our former students asking what, in their opinion, should be changed in the curriculum. These activities resulted in the source materials for the new curriculum for the academic year 2002/2003. The main conclusions are as follows: 1. Histology will be taught in the 1st and 2nd semesters of the 1st year; it will be completed with an examination in this year. 2. The original subject of Histology Embryology was divided; it will be lectured up to the 3rd semester together with Developmental Biology (ensured by the Department of Medical Biology); the subject is completed with an examination after the 3rd semester. 3. Nursing will be given more space as early as in the 1st year. 4. Teaching of Pathophysiology starts in the 4th semester; this will allow better coordination with Physiology. 5. Coordination in teaching of Biochemistry and Physiology continues. 6. Teaching of Pharmacolopgy will take place in the 3rd year. Its aim is to complete the non-block type of studies after the 6th semester. 7. Teaching of Pharmacology and E.N.T. will be shifted to the 4th year.
8. Teaching of Public Healthcare will take place in the 4th year; it will be completed with the Stata Final Examination. 9. There will be introduced a new obligatory subject Sports Medicine. 10. Teaching of Orthopedics will be introduced separately in the frame of the 5th year. 11. Teaching of Urgent Care and Practical Medicine will be shifted to the 6th year. All the above mentioned changes will be done gradually, starting with the academic year 2002/2003, education according to a new curriculum will start only in the 1st year. Students in the more advanced years will continue their course of studies in accordance with the existing curriculum and every new academic year will follow the new curriculum. 3.2 Accreditation of study programmes In the course of 2001, the accreditation of Bachelor programmes was realized in accordance with the instructions of the Czech Ministry of Education and Sports. Based on the decision of the Accreditation Commission, the course in Physiotherapy is accredited till January 25, 2006. Accreditation of the Bachelor course in Optics and Optometry has not yet been settled. In 2001, based on the materials prepared by individual workplaces, the Faculty turned to the Czech Medical Chamber with an application for accreditation in the system of the life-long continuous education according to the professional regulation No. 16 of the Czech Medical Chamber. The accreditation was granted by the Scientific Board of the Chamber for all disciplines which applied. The list of disciplines is contained in the accreditation decision see the web sites of the Faculty. Since 1999, the Master degree study programme of the 2nd Faculty of medicine has been accredited by the US Ministry of education and source materials for the purposes of re-accreditation were submitted in 2001.
