Work on live LV and HV power systems Mgr. Marek Jelínek ISŠ Sokolnice Špindler v Mlýn, 16.-17.4. 2014
Training centre Sokolnice Methodology & development Start of activities in 1999 Participation in the development of aids for WoLPS Cooperation on the design of components for power industry Offered trainings WoLPS up to 35 kv IVV up to 35 kv LV and HV cabling technologies Note: WoLPS = Work on Live Power Systems www.iss-sokolnice.cz

Reasons for implementation of WoLPS Compliance with power supply standards Penalties, motivating quality incentives Increase of power supply reliability Customer satisfaction Economy of equipment maintenance Offer of WoLPS services to important customers Increased safety of employees in their work on power facilities www.iss-sokolnice.cz 5
Comparison of prices for intervention Sanctions Lost profit Intervention Non-live system WoLPS www.iss-sokolnice.cz 6
Continuity of operation in CZ The indexes of System Operators indicating the continuity of power transmission or distribution services are as follows: 1. SAIFI (System Average Interruption Frequency Index) Average number of power distribution outages per customer within evaluated period 2. SAIDI (System Average Interruption Duration Index) Average total duration of power distribution outages per customer within evaluated period 3. CAIDI (Customer Average Interruption Duration Index) Average duration of one power distribution outage at a customer within evaluated period It is desirable to reduce the frequency and duration of power outages. The use of WoLPS can improve the indexes of power distribution continuation only in the area of planned work [planned outages]. If all [planned] actions are done using WoLPS, then the system index SAIFI would be improved by approx. 11 % and system index SAIDI by approx. 25 %. Renewal of the qualification for WoLPS Renewing period is defined in the standard PNE 33 0000 6 Each 36 months (with a 1-month tolerance) The qualification is maintained by systematic performance of WoLPS The qualification can be renewed in the training centre of WoLPS Requirements should be sent through PPK www.iss-sokolnice.cz 10
Methods of WoLPS www.iss-sokolnice.cz 11
Methods of WoLPS A method for the performance of WoLPS is a technological procedure for the work and protection against dangerous effects of voltage We use the following methods: A. Work on distance B. Work in contact C. Work under potential D. C3M method www.iss-sokolnice.cz 12
Work on distance Live part Use HV, VHV and EHV systems Rarely used in LV systems Použití Elektrické za ízení VN, VVN a ZVN. Principle Operators can be in contact with ground potential Operator is protected against voltage effects through insulating bar and protection by distance Ground potential www.iss-sokolnice.cz 13

Work on distance VHV 110 kv www.iss-sokolnice.cz 16
Work in contact Uncovered live part Insulated LV tools Insulating gloves Human body resistance Insulation against ground Use LV and HV systems Highest maximal applicable voltage for this method is 36 kv AC Použití Elektrické za ízení NN a VN. Nejvyšší možné použitelné maximální nap tí této metody je 36 kv AC. Princip Pracovník je odizolován od zemního potenciálu. Proti ú ink m nap tí je pracovník chrán n izola ními rukavicemi. Pracuje se jen na jednom poteciálu. Principle Operator is insulated against ground potential Operator is protected against voltage effects through insulating gloves Work only on a single potential Ground potential www.iss-sokolnice.cz 17
Work in contact LV 0,4 kv www.iss-sokolnice.cz 18
Work in contact HV 22 kv www.iss-sokolnice.cz 19
Work under potential Uncovered Live part Use HV, VHV and EHV systems This method must not be used in LV systems Použití Elektrické za ízení VN, VVN a ZVN. Principle Operator is perfectly insulated against ground potential Operator is protected against voltage effects through aids acting on the principle of Faraday cage www.iss-sokolnice.cz 20
