Conditions for admission to study in Bachelor s and Master s degree programmes for the academic year 2016/2017 The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ostrava Ref. no. OU-82802/25-2015 under Section 49, Susection 5, Act no. 111/1998 S. on universities, including amendments and additions to other Acts (the Universities Act), as susequently amended; and under Article 2, Paragraph 1 of Appendix no. 2 of the Statutes of the University of Ostrava, the Regulations on Admissions Procedures; and under Article 18, Paragraph 3 and Article 28, Paragraph 1 of the Statutes of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ostrava; herey announces the rules governing admission to study in Bachelor s and Master s degree programmes for the academic year 2016/2017: Article 1 Applications to study 1. A list of all degree programmes and degree sujects offered to applicants, including the forms of study offered, is given in the Appendix. 2. Deadline for sumission of applications to study: 29 Feruary 2016. 3. Applications may only e sumitted in electronic form (e-applications). 4. The application fee is 560 CZK (five hundred and sixty Czech crowns). This fee must e paid to account no. 931761/0710, payment reference numer ( variailní symol ) 251011, specific payment code ( specifický symol ) = a special numer which is generated uniquely for each applicant when sumitting the e-application. 5. To sumit an e-application, follow the following procedure: a) go to the link E-přihláška ke studiu na OU on the homepage of the University of Ostrava http://www.osu.cz/; ) applicants enter their personal details and choose a degree suject (or comination of degree sujects), including the form of study (full-time studies = prezenční ; part-distance studies = kominované ); c) the system generates a specific payment code ( specifický symol ) for each applicant; this code must e entered when paying the application fee of 560 CZK; d) the application is only considered valid once the applicant has paid the aovementioned fee; in addition to the correct ank account numer and payment reference numer ( variailní symol ), the correct specific payment code ( specifický symol ) must also e given when paying the fee in order for the application to e considered valid; e) applicants who have correctly sumitted an e-application do not need to send any materials y post; this does not apply to applicants i. for the Bachelor s degree suject Czech Language and Literature ( Český jazyk a literatura ), for which applicants must send certified copies of the year-end certificates from each year of their secondary school studies or an extract from the mid-year certificate from the final year of their secondary school studies (see Appendix, explanatory note to note 1); ii. for the Bachelor s degree suject Art History Focusing on Heritage Management and Industrial Monuments ( Dějiny umění se zaměřením na památkovou péči a technické památky ), for which applicants must send certified copies of the year-end certificates

iii. from the penultimate and final years of their secondary school studies or an extract from the mid-year certificate from the final year of their secondary school studies (see Appendix, explanatory note to note 2); for all cominations of the Master s degree programme Teaching for Secondary Schools ( Učitelství pro střední školy ), who must send an expert logopedic and phoniatric report, or a document proving that they have successfully completed the state final examination in pedagogy and psychology at a university, or a document proving that they have successfully completed the courses which make up the lock known as the pedagogical-psychological asics ( pedagogicko-psychologický základ ); see Article 5 in these cases applicants must send the required materials, together with a printed-out and signed short version of the application form, y 29 Feruary 2016; f) applicants who pay the application fee from aroad must send a confirmation of payment to the Faculty s Department of Study Records and Statistics ( Studijní oddělění ). 6. All applicants must use the e-application system on the internet to check that the application fee has een credited to the University s ank account. If the fee has not een credited to the University s account, the applicant must pay the fee again in order that the fee is credited to the University s account no later than 31 March 2016. If an applicant requests the reimursement of a payment made in error, the University of Ostrava charges a cancellation fee of 100 CZK (one hundred Czech crowns). Any issues related to the sumission of applications must e resolved no later than 31 March 2016. Requests for rectification received after this date will not e actioned. 7. If the application is correctly sumitted and the application fee correctly paid, applicants will receive a written invitation to the entrance examination (if the admissions procedure for the degree suject in question involves an entrance examination). 8. If an applicant applies for more than one degree suject (or cominations of sujects), the applicant must complete a separate application for each suject/comination; each application must include all necessary particulars, and the application fee must e paid (N.B.: The stipulated application fee must e paid once for each application; one fee covers only one application). If the applicant fails to attend the entrance examination, the application fee will not e returned to the applicant. Applicants who sumit more than one application accept the risk of a potential clash of entrance examination dates. 9. N.B.: It is not permitted to transfer one application to a different degree suject or form of study (i.e. full-time studies = prezenční or part-distance studies = kominované ). Article 2 Conditions for admission previous education 1. The conditions for admission with regard to previous education are stipulated in Section 48 of the Universities Act. 2. The condition for admission to a Bachelor s degree programme is the completion of secondary education including the maturita school-leaving examination. 3. The completion of secondary education including the maturita school-leaving examination is demonstrated y the sumission of a certified copy of the school-leaving certificate ( maturitní vysvědčení ). Applicants must sumit this document to the Faculty s Department of Study Records and Statistics ( Studijní oddělění ) no later than 30 June 2016. 4. Applicants who completed their secondary education outside the Czech Repulic must sumit (y the date given in Paragraph 3) a certificate or document showing the nostrification (recognition) of their school-leaving certificate, i.e. confirming that the certificate is considered

equivalent to a school-leaving certificate ( maturitní vysvědčení ) issued in the Czech Repulic. 5. The condition for admission to a Master s degree programme is the completion of studies in a degree programme of at least Bachelor level. 6. Completion of a degree programme of at least Bachelor level is demonstrated y the sumission of a certified copy of the university diploma. Applicants must sumit this document on the day of enrolment; the enrolment will take place in the first half of Septemer 2016. Successful applicants will e informed of the precise date of enrolment y post, after the completion of the entrance examinations. 7. Applicants who completed a degree programme of at least Bachelor level outside the Czech Repulic must sumit (y the date given in Paragraph 6) a certificate of nostrification (recognition) of their university education y the Czech Repulic. 8. The provisions of Paragraphs 4 and 7 do not apply if the Czech Repulic has signed an intergovernmental agreement with the given country on the mutual recognition of educational certificates. In this case the applicant must sumit a certified copy of the relevant document issued in the foreign country. Article 3 Further conditions for admission 1. Further conditions for admission are stipulated y the Faculty as per Section 49 of the Universities Act. 2. The applicant s fulfilment of further conditions is verified: a. y means of the evaluation of the applicant s performance in an entrance examination, if such an examination is stipulated as a requirement for admission to the given degree suject,. y means of the evaluation of the applicant s secondary school results; this applies only to the Bachelor s degree sujects Czech Language and Literature ( Český jazyk a literatura ) and Art History Focusing on Heritage Management and Industrial Monuments ( Dějiny umění se zaměřením na památkovou péči a technické památky ), c. y means of the evaluation of other documents sent y the applicant; this applies only to the Master s degree programme Czech for Foreigners ( Čeština pro cizince ). 3. The specific means y which the applicant s fulfilment of further conditions is verified are listed in the Appendix. 4. In the case of Master s degree sujects for which no entrance examination is stipulated and for which the applicant is not required to send other documents for evaluation, admission is conditional upon the applicant having previously studied a degree suject which is similar or related to the Master s degree suject for which the applicant is applying. If the applicant has not completed a degree in a similar or related suject, or if the applicant is not in the final year of his/her studies in a similar or related degree suject, he/she fails to fulfil this condition for admission. (The similarity of sujects is evaluated y the examination committee at the appropriate Department of the Faculty.) 5. The admissions procedure is ased on a systematically applied points-ased evaluation.

6. The maximum score attainale y an applicant is 100 points per degree suject. (If an applicant applies for a comination of two degree sujects, the maximum score attainale y this applicant is 200 points.) 7. If a Bachelor s degree suject does not require applicants to take an entrance examination prior to admission, and if secondary school results are not evaluated prior to admission, the applicant receives 100 points for the given degree suject. 8. If a Master s degree suject does not require applicants to take an entrance examination prior to admission, and if admission is conditional upon the applicant having previously studied a degree suject which is similar or related to the Master s degree suject for which the applicant is applying (see Paragraph 4), the applicant receives 100 points. If the condition of similarity is not met, the applicant receives 0 points. 9. The condition for admission is the applicant s passing of an entrance examination or satisfactory secondary school results. 10. Applicants applying to study in doule-major programmes must pass the entrance examinations (or must have achieved satisfactory secondary school results) for oth degree sujects in order to e admitted. 11. If the numer of applicants passing the entrance examination, or achieving satisfactory secondary school results, or meeting the requirements set for the evaluation of other materials sent y the applicant, is higher than the capacity of the given degree suject, the applicants shall e ranked in order of scores attained and the highest-ranking applicants shall e admitted. Article 4 Entrance examinations 1. Date of the entrance examinations: 30 May 3 June 2016. 2. N.B.: There is only one alternative date for the entrance examinations (15 June 2016). This will e availale to applicants only if there is a clash with the applicant s school-leaving examination ( maturitní zkouška ) in the case of applicants to Bachelor s degree programmes, or with the applicant s Bachelor-level state final examination in the case of applicants to Master s degree programmes. Applicants must sumit a written request to take the entrance examination on this alternative date no later than 20 May 2016; the request must include a document issued y the applicant s secondary school or university proving that the schoolleaving examination or Bachelor-level state final examination is scheduled to e held on the precise day for which the applicant s entrance examination is scheduled. Incomplete requests, or requests sumitted after the aove-stated date, will e rejected. 3. Complete information on degree sujects, including the content of entrance examinations and the criteria for their evaluation, form an integral part of these Conditions and are pulished online at http://ff.osu.cz (link Studium Přijímací řízení Naízené oory ). Article 5 Special provisions for admission the degree programme ( Učitelství pro střední školy ) 1. The maximum score attainale y an applicant applying for a comination of two degree sujects (i.e. a doule-major programme) as part of the Master s programme Teaching for Secondary Schools ( Učitelství pro střední školy ) is 300 points. 2. Applicants applying to study in doule-major programmes as part of the Master s programme ( Učitelství pro střední školy ) must, in addition to meeting the conditions for admission to oth degree sujects, also pass the entrance examinations for

oth degree sujects and the entrance examination for pedagogy and psychology in order to e admitted. 3. Applicants applying to study in the Master s programme ( Učitelství pro střední školy ) are not required to take the entrance examination in pedagogy and psychology (and will automatically receive 100 points for this examination) if they sumit documents proving that: a. they have previously passed state final examinations in pedagogy and psychology as part of their previous university studies, or. they have successfully completed the courses making up the lock known as the pedagogical-psychological asics ( pedagogicko-psychologický základ ), receiving at least 8 credits for these sujects. The aove documentation must e sumitted either when sumitting the application to study or on the day of the entrance examination; it may not e sumitted on any other date. Article 6 Other provisions governing the admissions procedure 1. Standard cominations of degree sujects in doule-major studies (i.e. those cominations whose compulsory courses are timetaled according to the standard study plan) are as follows (for Bachelor s degrees): English Language and Literature (Anglický jazyk a literatura) Czech Language and Literature (Český jazyk a literatura), English Language and Literature (Anglický jazyk a literatura) History (Historie), English Language and Literature (Anglický jazyk a literatura) Psychology (Psychologie), English Language and Literature (Anglický jazyk a literatura) Basics of Social Sciences (Základy společenských věd), Czech Language and Literature (Český jazyk a literatura) History (Historie), Czech Language and Literature (Český jazyk a literatura) Psychology (Psychologie), Czech Language and Literature (Český jazyk a literatura) Basics of Social Sciences (Základy společenských věd), History (Historie) Psychology (Psychologie), History (Historie) Basics of Social Sciences (Základy společenských věd), Psychology (Psychologie) Basics of Social Sciences (Základy společenských věd). 2. For the academic year 2016/2017 the Faculty plans to admit a numer of applicants enaling the maximum numer of students enrolled in Bachelor s degree programmes to e 590 and the maximum numer of students enrolled in Master s degree programmes to e 150; these figures may e suject to change depending on the actual allocation of funding quotas y the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to the University of Ostrava in 2016. These cominations of degree sujects form part of the degree programme Philology or Humanities. ) Students of Master s doule-major degree programmes for secondary school teaching select a comination of any two of the degree sujects listed aove as part of the degree programme (e.g. Teaching English Language and Teaching Czech Language and, Teaching German Language and Literature for Secondary Schools Teaching History for Secondary Schools, etc.). c) The entrance examination in pedagogy and psychology forms an integral part of the entrance examination for the Master s degree programme. The examination tests knowledge of the courses which make up the lock known as the pedagogical-psychological asics ( pedagogickopsychologický základ ). Applicants can gain a maximum of 100 points from the entrance examination in pedagogy and psychology. d) Students of Master s doule-major degree programmes (not for secondary school teaching) select a comination of any two of the degree sujects listed aove (e.g. English Language and Literature Czech Language and Literature, German Language and Literature History, etc.). These cominations of degree sujects form part of the degree programme Philology. e) The entrance examination is oth written and : the written part of the examination verifies the applicant s language knowledge, while the part verifies literary knowledge. The pass mark is 40 points. Note: Degree sujects offered y the Faculty of Arts as part of cominations of two degree sujects in doulemajor programmes (Bachelor degree programmes or the Master s degree programme Teaching for Secondary Schools) may also e studied in comination with selected degree sujects offered y the Faculty of Science (e.g. English Language and Literature Informatics). These cominations form part of the range offered y the Faculty of Science. It is also possile to study one comination in conjunction with the Pedagogical Faculty as part of the Bachelor s degree programme Pedagogy Psychology (Pedagogika Psychologie) and the Master s degree programme Teaching Pedagogy Teaching Psychology for Secondary Schools (Učitelství pedagogiky Učitelství psychologie pro SŠ). These cominations form part of the range offered y the Pedagogical Faculty.
