(1) It is the largest city in Croatia Leading place for creativity Motor of economic growth Several universities, most of research institutes, polytechnics, BIO center, incubators, large industrial players in ICT, biotechnology/pharmaceuticals and novel materials; CoE, owner of research hospitals, etc. Most of SMEs with R&D activities are located in Zagreb
How can City of Zagreb help? (2) Zagreb should strive to become an important innovation center in Europe Mayor and City Government should develop vision and create strategic alliance of all important stakeholders Mayor should be a strong voice and supporter of innovation City of Zagreb should lobby Central Government for necessary policy changes; for evaluation of all NIS components and their strategic alignments for improvements Lobby for better national investment in R&D and to invest more of its own funds Develop Zagreb Innovation Strategy with clear action plan and allocated funds
