Electricity house load for heat production (HLh) = Analogous to HL e. Gross electricity = electricity available at generator terminals. Gross load = The hourly value of electrical power supplied to the Czech electricity grid by connected electricity generators + net balance (it is shown with and without the value of pumping power at pumped storage hydroelectric power stations). House load for electricity (HLe) = This expression denotes the consumption of electricity that is required for the electricity generating process. It covers all operations that are crucial for electricity, including losses in electricity. The definition is based on 'process house load' specified in Section 2 (u) of Act No 165/212, on supported energy sources and amending certain laws, as amended. Installed capacities = Installed capacities reflect the capacities actually connected in the transmission system and the distribution systems, i.e. the figures do not reflect the sum of the licences awarded for the respective category of electricity. Local consumption = Consumption of generators and entities directly connected to the respective generating plant. National gross consumption (NGC) = NNC + consumption for pumping at PSHE + total losses + HL e. National net consumption (NNC) = HD_C at the EHV level + HD_C at the HV level + LD_H + LD_B + consumption of the TSO and DSOs + local consumption + HL h. Net balance = Net balance of cross-border exchanges of electrical energy in a given period. It is the difference between total electricity imports and total electricity exports in a given period. A positive value denotes electricity imports exceeding exports, and a negative value denotes electricity exports exceeding imports. Net electricity = Gross electricity minus HL e. losses = Losses in distribution system operators and the transmission system operator s networks. Page 3 of 37

216 2 Commentary on the year under review Under Section 17(7)(m) of Act No 458/2 as amended (the Energy Act), the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) publishes the Yearly Report on the Operation of the Czech Electricity Grid for 216. All data is based on information received from licensees. This Report follows up on the yearly reports released in preceding years and provides information about the electricity industry s and, partly, the heating industry s key statistics for 216, including their development over the past ten years. Its respective chapters contain statistics on electrical energy balances for January to December 216 and electricity and consumption by category, including renewable energy sources (RES) and combined heat & power. The Report also contains an overview of the installed capacities in the Czech electrical grid, cross-border electricity flows and some region-specific evaluations. More detailed information can be found in the quarterly reports on the operation of the Czech electrical grid, which are posted on the ERO s website. The Yearly Report for 216 is based on the data in the fourth quarter of 216 report and contains some data that is more accurate than that in the released quarterly reports. Gross electricity declined for the fourth year in a row in 216 and totalled 83.3 TWh, down by 586.4 GWh (-.7%) on 215. The country s gross electricity consumption increased for the second year in a row and amounted to 72.4 TWh (+2%); it was the highest for the last ten years. The largest year-on-year change in electricity was registered in combined cycle plants, up by 1,3 GWh (+47%); their installed capacity remained unchanged at 1.363 MW. On the other hand, the year-on-year decline in the output from NPPs continued; they generated 2,737 GWh less ( 1.2%), while their installed capacity was 4,29 MW for the fourth year. Generation in large, over 1MW hydroelectric power stations increased by 154 GWh (+2%) in 216, while it had been decreasing for the preceding two years. Their installed capacity remained unchanged at 753 MW. Small hydroelectric power stations gross production rose by 51 MWh (+5%) and their installed capacity was almost unchanged at 337 MW. On the whole, in hydroelectric power stations rose by 26 GWh (+11.5%) compared with 215. While the installed capacity of small hydroelectric power stations accounted for 31% of the total installed capacity of all hydroelectric power stations, they produced 53% of total electricity from hydro stations. Electricity in pumped-storage hydroelectric power stations dropped by 74 GWh (-6%) yearon-year, while it had been continuously rising over the preceding seven years. Wind power plants produced 76 GWh less (-13%) yearon-year; their installed capacity was almost the same, 282 MW, for the third year. Photovoltaic electricity decreased by 132 GWh (-6%) year-on-year; their installed capacity has been slightly rising since 211, by units of percent, to 2,47 MW at the end of 216. While from biologically degradable municipal waste rose by 12 GWh (+14%) year-on-year, from biomass and biogas slightly decreased. Despite gross domestic electricity consumption rising by 1,44 GWh (+2%), gross electricity from renewable sources remained almost the same, 9,395 GWh (-.3%). The trend of growing electricity from renewable sources has stabilised over the past three years and gross renewable electricity accounted for 13% of total consumption last year. While electricity from brown coal remained at almost the same level, from hard coal increased by 554 GWh (11%) year on year. Generation from natural gas surged by 1,444 GWh (73%) compared with 215. Electricity consumption increased the most in the household category, by more than 437 GWh (+3%) year-on-year. Compared with the other Regions, the growth in household consumption was significantly higher in the Central Bohemian region, by almost 12 GWh (+4.1%). Overall, the Moravian-Silesian Region experienced the highest growth in consumption compared with 215, which was primarily due to higher supply to the energy sector (by 347 GWh). The largest growth in supply to the construction industry was in Prague (by 8.4 GWh), which also saw a significantly greater growth in supply to retail, services, education and health (by 517 GWh) compared with the other Regions. As in preceding years, 216 also saw a continuously negative net balance, amounting to almost 11 TWh for the whole year. This implies a year-on-year drop by 59 GWh (-12.3%), caused by a weaker cross-border flow of electricity from the Czech Republic. The net balance was the lowest over the last ten years. The annual peak load in the grid was registered on 5 December 216 at 16: (11,41 MW) and the annual minimum load on 7 August 216 at 5: (4,932 MW). The Report also evaluates hourly load and demand variations, including the structure of the generating capacities covering the peak load and the minimum load. Consumption on the peak load and minimum load days in preceding years is also shown. The Yearly Report also shows key technical data on the transmission system and regional distribution systems, including the SAIFI, SAIDI and CAIDI supply quality ratios; their evaluation suggests that the smallest number and shortest duration of electricity supply interruption was achieved since the beginning of monitoring these ratios. The latest map of the Czech electrical grid is attached to the Report. The information for this Yearly Report has been obtained directly from electricity generators and distribution system and transmission system operators; information about renewable energy sources has also been obtained with the help of OTE, a.s. Data sources are shown with the respective tables in the report. Please feel free to send your questions and comments to elektro.statistika@eru.cz. Page 4 of 37
