The operating instructions are part of this product. They contain important information on safety, usage and disposal. Intended use This device is a consumer electronics device designed for the reception of FM radio programmes, as a kitchen timer and as an alarm by means of an alarm tone or radio. It is intended only for indoor use. The device is intended as a free standing unit or for installation under a wall cupboard. For these purposes the integrated stand or mounting plate must be used. It is not intended for any other or more extensive use. This device is not intended for use in commercial or industrial environments. The manufacturer accepts no responsibility for damage caused by failure to observe these instructions, improper use or repairs, unauthorised modifications or the use of unapproved replacement parts. 7 GB Safety In this section, you will find important safety instructions for using the device. This device complies with statutory safety regulations. Improper use may result in personal injury and property damage. Risk of electrocution DANGER Risk of fatal injury from electrocution! Contact with live cables or components can result in fatal injury! Comply with the following safety information in order to avoid the risk of electric shock: Do not use the device if the mains power plug or the connection cable are damaged. When disconnecting the device from the mains supply, always pull on the plug and never on the cable. Never touch the mains plug or the device with wet hands. The device housing must not be opened under any circumstances. There is a risk of electric shock or fire if live connections are touched and the electrical and mechanical structure is changed. Do not insert any objects into the ventilation slots or other openings on the device. The device consumes power in standby mode. To completely disconnect the device from the mains power, the power plug must be removed from the mains power socket. The device should be positioned so that you have unrestricted access to the mains power socket at all times, and can pull out the plug immediately in an emergency. Handling batteries DANGER Mishandling the batteries can cause fires, explosions, leakages or other hazards! Do not throw the batteries into a fire and do not subject them to high temperatures. Do not open, deform or short-circuit batteries, since this can lead to chemical leakage. Do not attempt to recharge batteries. Do not charge batteries unless they are explicitly labelled as "rechargeable". There is a risk of explosion! Check the condition of the batteries at regular intervals. Leaking chemicals can cause permanent damage to the device. Take particular care when handling damaged or leaking batteries. Risk of acid burns! Wear protective gloves. Chemicals which leak from a battery can cause skin irritation. In the event of contact with the skin, rinse with plenty of water. If the chemicals come into contact with your eyes, rinse thoroughly with water, do not rub and consult a doctor immediately. 4 SKR 800 A1

8 DANGER Keep batteries out of the reach of children. Children might put batteries into their mouth and swallow them. If a battery has been swallowed, seek medical assistance IMMEDIATELY. Do not mix different types of batteries. Always insert the batteries the right way round (observe correct polarity) otherwise there is a danger that they could explode. If you do not intend to use the device for a long time, remove the batteries. GB Basic safety guidelines To ensure safe operation of the device, follow the safety guidelines set out below: This device may be used by children aged 8 years and above and by persons with limited physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge, provided that they are under supervision or have been told how to use the device safely and are aware of the potential risks. Children must not use the device as a plaything. Cleaning and user maintenance tasks may not be carried out by children unless they are supervised. Check the device for visible external damage before use. Do not operate a device that has been damaged or dropped. If the cables or connections are damaged, have them replaced by an authorised specialist or the Customer Service department. Protect the connection cable from hot surfaces and sharp edges. Ensure that the power cable is not stretched tightly or kinked. Do not allow the cable to dangle over edges (tripwire effect). All repairs must be carried out by authorised specialist companies or by the Customer Service department. Failure to make proper repairs may put the user at risk. It will also invalidate any warranty claims. Defective components must always be replaced with original replacement parts. Compliance with the safety requirements can only be guaranteed by using these replacement parts. Do not make any unauthorised modifications or alterations to the device. Always place the device on a stable and level surface. It can be damaged if dropped. Do not expose the device to direct sunlight or high temperatures. Otherwise it may overheat and be irreparably damaged. Be sure to provide sufficient air circulation to avoid a heat build-up. Never cover the device! Risk of fire! Do not place the product near heat sources such as radiators or other heat-generating devices. Do not operate the device close to naked flames (e.g. candles). SKR 800 A1 5

9 GB The device is not designed for use in rooms with high temperatures or humidity (e.g. bathrooms) or where there is excessive dust. Protect the device from drips or splashes of water. Never immerse the device in water and do not set up the device in the close vicinity of water and do not place objects filled with liquids (e.g. vases) onto the device. If you notice a burning smell or smoke, pull out the plug immediately and remove the batteries. In the case of a malfunction occurring or a thunderstorm, disconnect the plug from the mains power socket. DANGER! Do not allow children to play with the packaging material! 10 Before use Check the package contents Remove all parts of the device and the operating instructions from the box. Remove all packaging material. The package contents include the following components: Kitchen Radio SKR 800 A1 Mounting plate 4 (pre-assembled) 4 x spacers 14 4 mounting screws (long) 15 4 mounting screws (short) 16 These operating instructions 17 NOTE Check the package for completeness and for signs of visible damage. If any items are missing or damaged as a result of defective packaging or insufficient care during transportation, contact the Service hotline (see the section Service). GB Disposal of packaging materials The packaging protects the device from damage during carriage. The packaging materials have been selected for their environmental friendliness and ease of disposal, and are therefore recyclable. Returning the packaging to the material cycle conserves raw materials and reduces the amount of waste which is generated. Dispose of packaging materials that are no longer needed in accordance with applicable local regulations. NOTE If possible, keep the device's original packaging for the warranty period so that the device can be packed properly for return shipment in the event of a warranty claim. Set-up location requirements For safe and trouble-free operation of the device, the set-up location must fulfil the following requirements: When setting it up, place the device on a firm, flat and horizontal surface. Use the fold-out stand. The surfaces of some items of furniture might contain components that can corrode and soften the rubber feet of the device. If necessary, place a cover under the device's rubber feet. Set up or mount the device in such a way that the ventilation openings and the speaker are not covered. SKR 800 A1 7

11 GB Do not place the device in a hot, wet or extremely damp environment or in the vicinity of flammable materials. The mounting location must be selected so that the device is not exposed to steam. Do not install the device directly over a hotplate. The mains power socket must be easily accessible so that the power cable can be easily disconnected in an emergency. Installation under a wall cupboard 3,1 cm 6,3 cm You can install the device under a wall cupboard using the supplied mounting plate 4. Proceed as follows to mount the device: Slide the mounting plate to the rear and remove it from the device. Find a suitable installation location for the device (see also the section Set-up location requirements). Hold the mounting plate under the installation location. Ensure that the front edge of the mounting plate is approx. 3.1 cm behind the front of the cupboard so that the device is flush with the cupboard after installation. The side edges of the mounting plate must be around 6.3 cm from any adjacent cabinets or walls. Mark the 4 mounting points with a pencil. Using a spike or nail, make a small depression at the respective marking points. If required, place the supplied spacers 14 between the cupboard and the mounting plate. If using the spacers, you will need the long mounting screws 15. Screw the mounting plate tight using the mounting screws (15 or 16) provided. Push the device with its top against the mounting plate 4 until it clicks audibly into place. Check to ensure that the device is securely seated. 8 SKR 800 A1

12 Dismantling Pull the device forwards off the mounting plate. Unscrew the screws (15 or 16) on the mounting plate and remove the mounting plate from the wall cupboard. Setting up the device As an alternative you can stand the device on a level surface. To prevent the ventilation slots and speaker 10 on the bottom of the device from being covered, the device's stand 9 must be folded outwards: Reach into the recess on the side of the stand and pull it out as far as it will go. Select a suitable location for the device (see also the section Set-up location requirements). Connecting the power supply GB CAUTION Before connecting the device compare the connection data (voltage and frequency) on the rating plate with that of your electric supply. These data must agree so that no damage is sustained by the device. Insert the power plug into a mains wall socket. The time ( ) flashes on the display 5. Inserting batteries By inserting 2 x 1.5 V batteries (type AA/Mignon/LR6) you can prevent the programmed time or saved stations from being lost in the event of a power failure. The batteries make sure that the internal clock continues to run even during a power outage. When power is restored, the correct time automatically appears on the display. NOTE The device can also be operated without a battery. The display, radio and alarm do not function in emergency mode. Open the cover of the battery compartment 12 on the bottom of the device. Insert 2 x 1.5 V batteries (type AA/Mignon/LR6) (not supplied) into the battery compartment. Insert the batteries as shown on the polarity diagram in the battery compartment. Then close the battery compartment by replacing the cover and snapping it into place. FM wire aerial Completely unwind the wire aerial 13 for FM radio reception. SKR 800 A1 9

13 GB Handling and operation Setting the time, alarm time and alarm type Requirement: The device is in clock/standby mode. NOTE Make the settings quickly. If you do not press a button for 7 seconds, the entry is cancelled. All settings made up to this point are saved automatically. Press the button 2 for about 2 seconds. The display 5 flashes, showing the indicator for 24-hour mode ( ). Press the button 6 or button 7 to switch between 24-hour ( ) and 12-hour mode ( ). NOTE If the 12-hour mode is set, AM appears in the upper left of the display until 12 noon. From 12 noon, this changes to PM. Press the button to accept the setting. The hours will flash in the display and the clock icon appears. Press or hold down the button or the button to set the hour. Press the button to accept the setting. The minutes will flash in the display. Press or hold down the button or the button to set the minutes. Press the button to accept the time. The hour digits for the alarm will flash in the display and the icon for the activated alarm function appears. Press or hold down the button or the button to set the hour. Press the button to accept the setting. The minute digits for the alarm flash on the display. Press or hold down the button or the button to set the minutes. Press the button to accept the setting. The alarm type appears in the display: (buzzer) or (radio). Press the or button to set the required alarm type. If you have selected the (radio) alarm type, press the button again. appears on the display. Use the button 6 or the button 7 to set the desired volume ( ) for the radio alarm. Press the button 2 to accept the setting. The time reappears on the display 5 together with the icons. 10 SKR 800 A1

14 To switch the alarm function on or off Requirement: The device is in clock/standby mode. Press the button briefly. The icon for the activated alarm function appears on the display. Press the button again briefly. The icon for the activated alarm function is switched off. NOTE The alarm time can only be changed if the menu "Set clock" is executed (see section Setting the time, alarm time and alarm type). GB Switching off the alarm While the alarm is sounding, press the button 3 to switch off the alarm for 24 hours. If the alarm is not manually deactivated, the device will switch off the alarm automatically after 1 hour. Switching radio mode on/off NOTE The technical features of this device enable an adjustable reception capability that exceeds the permitted FM frequency range of MHz. In some countries, different national regulations may apply to the assigned radio frequency ranges. Please note that information received outside of the assigned radio frequency ranges may not be exploited, passed on to third parties or otherwise misused. Press the button to switch the radio on. Press the button again to switch the radio off and thus put the device into clock/ standby mode. NOTE The display illumination is switched off between 11 pm and 5 am in the clock/ standby mode. This switch-off time is permanently programmed and cannot be changed. Press the or button to switch on the display illumination for a short time. SKR 800 A1 11

15 GB Adjusting the volume Turn the VOLUME/DISPLAY/ 8 dial to the right to increase the volume. Turn the VOLUME/DISPLAY/ dial to the left to decrease the volume. The set volume will be shown on the display 5 as a value between (mute) and. Adjusting stations manually Press the button 6 briefly to increase the frequency. Press the button 7 briefly to reduce the frequency. The station frequency is shown on the display and the speaker 10 is switched off during the station search. If a station broadcasting in stereo is being received, the stereo icon appears on the display. Searching for the next station The device can automatically search for the nearest station. Press the button for about 2 seconds. The device searches for the station with the next higher frequency. Press the button for about 2 seconds. The device searches for the station with the next lower frequency. Automatic station search (AMS function) The device uses the AMS function to automatically search for stations and saves them in the device s 20 preset slots. Press the button 2 for about 2 seconds. The device begins the station search and allocates the stations found to the preset slots to. Every time a station is saved, the frequency remains briefly on the display. Once all the station presets are filled, the search is terminated and the station saved in the first preset is played. Retrieving saved radio stations Press the button briefly. The current station preset is shown on the display, e.g.. Press or hold down the button or the button to set the required station preset. Press the button to confirm the selection or wait around 4 seconds until the frequency changes automatically to that of the selected preset. 12 SKR 800 A1

16 Receiving stations in mono quality If you would like to receive a station in mono, press and hold the button 3 for about 2 seconds until the stereo icon disappears from the display 5. If you would like to switch back to stereo reception, press and hold the button for about 2 seconds until the stereo icon appears on the display. Kitchen timer The device has a convenient kitchen timer with which you can monitor cooking and baking times. There are 4 preset times and also an adjustable time range between 1 minute and 3 hours. The two timer types (preset times and adjustable time range) can also be used in parallel. GB Using preset times Use the TIMER dial to select one of the 4 settings 3, 5, 10 or 15 minutes. The countdown starts immediately and is briefly shown on the display. After the countdown has elapsed, you will hear an alarm tone. Press any button on the device or turn the TIMER dial to the OFF position to switch off the alarm. NOTE Press the VOLUME/DISPLAY/ 8 dial briefly to show the remaining time for the kitchen timer on the display. Set the TIMER dial to the OFF position if you want to turn the kitchen timer off before it has finished. Setting a variable timer time NOTE Make the settings quickly. If you do not press a button for 4 seconds, the entry is cancelled. Press and hold the VOLUME/DISPLAY/ dial for about 5 seconds until the kitchen timer icon appears on the display and the time display flashes. Turn the VOLUME/DISPLAY/ dial to the right to set the desired time to anywhere between 1 minute and 3 hours. Turn the VOLUME/DISPLAY/ to the left to decrease the time. The countdown starts immediately and is briefly shown on the display. The icon for the kitchen timer also appears on the display. SKR 800 A1 13

17 GB NOTE Press the VOLUME/DISPLAY/ 8 dial twice briefly to show the remaining time for the kitchen timer on the display 5. If you want to cancel the variable kitchen timer prematurely, press and hold the VOLUME/DISPLAY/ dial for about 5 seconds until the remaining time of the variable kitchen timer flashes on the display. While the remaining time is flashing on the display, press the button 7 to switch off the kitchen timer. As soon as the time display or the frequency display appears, the icon for the kitchen timer disappears. Cleaning DANGER Risk of fatal injury from electrocution! Remove the plug from the mains power socket before starting to clean the device. CAUTION Damage to the device! To avoid irreparable damage to the device, ensure that no moisture gets into it during cleaning. Cleaning the housing Clean the surfaces of the device with a soft, dry cloth. Use a lightly moistened cloth and a mild detergent to remove stubborn dirt residues. 14 SKR 800 A1

18 Troubleshooting This section contains important information about fault identification and rectification. Follow the instructions to avoid hazards and damage. GB Fault causes and rectification The following table will help you to identify and rectify minor malfunctions: Malfunction Possible cause Remedy The display 5 indicates nothing. No sound. Interference with the radio reception. The time and station presets are lost after a power failure. The plug is not connected. The mains power socket is not supplying power. The volume is set to minimum. The device is in clock/ standby mode. The station is not properly tuned in. The reception is weak. No batteries in the battery compartment 12 or batteries are dead. Put the power plug into the socket. Check the house mains fuse. Increase the volume with the VOLUME/DISPLAY/ 8 dial. Switch the device on using the button 3. Tune the station correctly using the button 6 or the button 7. Try to improve reception by realigning the wire aerial 13. Press and hold the button 2 for about 2 seconds to receive the station in mono. Check that the batteries have sufficient voltage and replace them if necessary. The time and station presets will need to be reprogrammed. NOTE If you are unable to resolve the problem by taking any of the aforementioned steps, please contact the Customer Service department. 19 GB Storage/Disposal Storage If you do not intend to use the device for an extended period of time disconnect it from the power supply, remove the batteries and store it in a clean, dry location that is not subjected to direct sunlight. Disposal of the device Never dispose of the device in the normal domestic waste. This product is subject to the provisions of the European WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive 2012/19/EU. Dispose of the device via an approved waste disposal company or your municipal waste disposal facility. Please observe applicable regulations. Please contact your waste disposal facility if you are in any doubt. Disposing of the batteries Do not dispose of the batteries in the domestic waste. Consumers are legally obliged to dispose of used batteries at a collection point in their town/district or at a retail store. This obligation is intended to ensure that batteries are disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner. Dispose of batteries only when they are fully discharged. Appendix Notes concerning the EC Declaration of Conformity This device complies with the essential requirements and other relevant provisions of the European Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive 2004/108/EC, the Low Voltage Directive 2006/95/EC and the RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU. Please retain your receipt as proof of purchase. In the case of a warranty claim, please make contact by telephone with our Customer Service Department. Only in this way can a post-free despatch for your goods be assured. NOTICE The warranty covers only claims for material and manufacturing defects, but not for transport damage, wearing parts or for damage to fragile components, e.g. buttons or batteries. This product is for domestic use only and is not intended for commercial use. The warranty is void in the case of abusive and improper handling, use of force and internal tampering not carried out by our authorised service branch.
